Marianne Jensen Waern
Marianne Jensen Waern, DVM, professor in comparative medicine at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, is leading the research group for laboratory animal medicine. She has an expertise in porcine medicine and has developed large animal models for infectious and metabolic diseases.
The research focus on survival pig models for diabetes research and transplantation. In addition to meet high scientific demands, quality assurance of the models implies animals with a high health and animal welfare. Development of safe anaesthesia and pain protocols, training and handling procedures with a minimum of stress is thus a major task. Professor Jensen Waern’s clinical research concerns the pathogenesis of bacterial infections in animals.
