Hans Elwing

Hans Elwing is professor emeritus at the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Gothenburg. He received his Ph.D. 1980 in Medical Microbiology and became full Professor 1993 in Interface Biophysics.  His research interests are investigations of proteins, pharmaceutical, and microbial interaction with solid surfaces. Within the biomaterial field his main interests concerns interface induced complement activation and blood coagulation.  He is also interested in different kinds of surface modifications such as chemical modification of polymer surfaces and surface modification with nanoparticle adsorption.  His main methodological interests are associated with surface sensitive methods such as Quartz Chrystal Microbalance (QCM-D), ellipsometry and surface plasmon resonance (SPR).   He also take interests in marine biofouling, including barnacle biology and barnacle control. Examiner and/or supervisor for 20 Ph.D. students and five postdocs. He has published about 150 papers in scientific Journals and is also the founder of several spin off companies from the University.
